HV GRADE 3
PODCAST
STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS
It’s important to begin with a good story.
Then, practice reading out loud. A lot. 😊
Next, just to see what you sound like, go to Vocaroo.com and record yourself reading. Again, do this a lot, at least 5 times. Play around and experiment with different pacing, pauses, voices for the characters. To get a good idea of what you should sound like, listen to some of the podcasts linked below.
Once you have practiced A LOT, and once you have recorded yourself and listened very closely to yourself, it’s time to think about what you want to add to your performance in order to make it even better.
What kind of music might you add at the beginning to set the mood for your podcast? Think of the music that plays at the beginning of movies and TV shows. You are trying to create something like that.
Also be thinking…do you want any pauses in your story where you play up to 10 seconds of music? Not because you think the music is cool, but because you think it really adds to your story and getting your message across.
Finally, think about whether you would like to add any sound effects. Are there any places where a “ding” or a car horn or a dog barking or a bird singing will add to your story?
Now go to Pixabay Podcast Music (with your teacher’s permission). Hover on Genres and then choose Instrumental. Once there, look for Soundtrack. This is for music you would play at the beginning and end of your reading, and possibly at a couple of very well placed spots during your reading. If there is anything you like here, click on the down arrow to download it. Be sure to make a folder in your H drive where you can save everything.
FINALLY, go to Pixabay Podcast Sounds and click on Sounds at the top left to look for sound effects.
